When it comes to getting more power out of a turbocharged car, one of the best bang-for-the-buck, surefire upgrades is going to be a performance downpipe. With the new BMW M3 and M4’s turbo six under the hood, it’s only natural that the aftermarket would be scrambling to develop parts for Bavaria’s finest new ///M-car. Our friends over at Evolution Racewerks have taken delivery of their very own Alpine White BMW M4 [F82] and are already hard at work developing new parts for the S55 twin turbo six cylinder engine, also found in the F80 BMW M3. Some of you may remember Evolution Racewerks’ famous BMW 135i [E82] race car that they used to develop and torture test their performance parts. This F82 BMW M4 shares the same destiny - this is just the first step in this M4’s transformation from street car to race car, and it’s worth noting they’ve just started production of their Evolution Racewerks BMW M4 Downpipes for S55 (which also fit F80 BMW M3, of course)

Like the E82 BMW 135i that preceded this M4, this car will spawn tons of performance parts for the trackday crowd and the daily-driven enthusiast alike. Evolution Racewerks has been hard at work developing a set of new Catless BMW M4 Downpipes that also fit the M3, uncorking the full raw potential of the S55. The Evolution Racewerks team stopped by last week on their way out to Buttonwillow Raceway to test the car and we got the chance to take a peek at the S55 downpipes for F80 M3 + F82 M4 that just went into production.

After getting the car on track at Buttonwillow last weekend, Evolution Racewerks shared the driver’s take on the difference the BMW M4 downpipes made. ModBargains President Ron got the chance to jump behind the wheel beforehand (lucky #%#^%#$! - color us jealous*, we’d love to drive an M4… -Ed.) , and before putting the downpipes on, the S55 engine is already one heck of a beast - as Ron put it so eloquently, “It’s a Monster of a car.”

Here’s what ER had to say: ** “(Our) Driver was pretty impressed with the car.  The car had amazing amount of grip (for a stock car) and was very easy to drive.  We were passing track setup E36, E46 and E92 M3’s all day long.”**

**ER Continued, “The track that day was setup using a hardly used configuration.  Typically, what everyone quotes time for Buttonwillow is CW (clockwise) #13 configuration.  We were running CCW (counterclockwise) configuration #25.  Fastest lap was **2:04.  Not sure how it corresponds exactly with CW #13.  CCW #25 will see a bit slower time I was told so the results were pretty good for the day.”

Very impressive stuff indeed! There’s not much more to tell as of now, so check out the photo gallery below for more of these new downpipes and more of that sexy new M4.
